Course objectives
The aim of the course is to understand key paradigms of the 19th century history with a focus on the issues of Western, Central and Eastern Europe (modern nationalism, relationships among world powers, the position of state, church and culture, the development of empires and national states, so-called Eastern question, colonialism and big ideologies) and setting these issues into a wider context.
Learning outcomes
Upon graduation the students will have know about the key political, economic, social and philosophical issues in the 19th century history. They will be able to explain their influence on modern era in Europe. They will also be able to analyse and compare the events and intellectual trends of Western, Central and Eastern Europe while setting them in the wider context of pre-modern development and contemporary history.
