Course objectives
The course is focused on presenting the crucial themes from economic and social history of the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the 20th century, which are presented in the context of the development of Europe or the world.
Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, the student is able to define, understand and exlain the specifics of the economic and social conditions of the Czech lands in the given periodin al its breadth and complexity.

  • Craft production and protoindustrialization
  • The Industrial Revolution and Agriculture
  • Railways and the connected industrial branches
  • Social quiestion of the end of the 18th and in the 19th centuries
  • Entrepreneurs and labourers: the social and cultural profile
  • Development of the labour market 1880–1938
  • Economic activity of the municipal autonomies 1849–1938
  • Transformation of the tradition economy to capitalist economu and the history of the land.
