Course objectives
The course focuses on the analysis and interpretation of a set of different types of sources on the history of the rural population in early modern times. They will explain the historical context of their origins, explain the used terms and present opportunities for the use of these sources and key research topics of the study of the history of Czech countryside.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student is able to analyze, interpret and use the sources in the elaboration of a separate output in the form of seminar work from the rural history of Czech lands.
Syllabus
  • Introduction, basic characteristics, divisions of the sources, cadastre lists of the populations, church registers (of birth and death, of marriages), urbaria, land books of orphans and serf lists, economic instructions and the serf codes, release letters, court and interrogation protocols, accounting material, memoirs.
