Course objectives
The course will focus on the guerilla resistance in the territory of Bohemia and Moravia during the WW II. Students will get a review of this kind of resistance in the Czech lands and they will learn about the specifics and effectiveness in comparison with other European countries that were occupied by the Nazi Germany.
Syllabus
  • 1. The term of "guerilla resistance" and its examples from the history of military conflicts in the nineteenth and twentieth century.
  • 2. The first resistance groups of the guerilla character in the Protectorate in 1942-1943.
  • 3. Organized paradrops from the Soviet Union and their impact on the development of the local resistance.
  • 4. The Nazi security machinery and the anti-guerilla units.
  • 5. The development in 1944-1945, a new stage of resistance activities.
  • 6. The Nazi terror against the guerilla collaborators among the local population.
  • 7. Partisans in the last weeks of the war and their role in the May Rising.
  • 8. The evaluation of the guerilla form of combat in Bohemia and Moravia in comparison with other countries occupied by the Nazi Germany.
