Course objectives
The seminar will deal with events related to the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the deputy imperial protector, the Czech resistance movement, the Heydrichiad, but for the most part also the way of commemorating the assassination in   2. mid-20th century and today. Students will create podcasts or video reports. IMPORTANT WARNING! An obligatory part of the course is an excursion, during which observation and analysis of memorial events in Prague and its surroundings in connection with   80 will take place. anniversary of the assassination. With regard to the month when the assassination took place, this excursion will take place during the examination period at the end of May (probably between May 25-28, 2022) !! Students will receive a scholarship that will cover part of the trip costs. For this reason, the number of enrolled seminar participants (who will be required to take this excursion) is limited to 20 students!
Learning outcomes
Papers and seminar papers in the form of podcasts and short videos. The student will learn to prepare not only a presentation but also a podcast, debate the problem and analyze the sources in relation to the historical event and its footprint, which the event recorded in the commemorative culture.

  • I. Introductory acquaintance, division of works, debate on ideas about assassination. Film: The Higher Principle (1961)
  • II. How to make a podcast. With Czech Radio editor V. Kindlová III. Assassination as an Event I - Assumptions (Heydrich's biography, political and war context of 1941 and 1942, Heydrich's politics in Prague and the situation of the Czech resistance at home and abroad) film: Hangman also die (1943) and debate.
  • IV. Assassination as an event II - assassinations in the Great German Empire, protectorate landings, the course of the assassination, the reaction of the Nazi regime to the assassination and Heydrich's death, Humiliation of protectorate power elites, Heydrichiáda, Lidice and Ležáky.
