Course objectives
The seminar will focus on selected problems of the Czech Church History in pre-1620 era. The attention will be focused not only on religious movements but also on institutions that participated in religious field, in the context of the country, but especially in the context of cities and dominions. The main emphasis should be given on Moravia. The lecture will be supported by examples from sources (that will be interpreted during the course). Finally, they will be mentioned contemporary approaches of Czech historiography.
Learning outcomes
- Students will be able to identify the main religious groups of the period in the Czech lands - They will be familiar with the institutions and participants who influenced the church problematic - They will be oriented in the basic sources and literature on the topic

  • European Reformation
  • Czech lands: religious groups, church administration
  • Confessionalisation and its manifestations
  • The beginnings of the Counter-Reformation and the Jesuits
  • Selected aspects and subtopics of Czech church history (conversions, confessional conflicts, etc.)
