Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with Czech and partly also Slovak musical culture in the years 1945 - 1972. Attention is paid primarily to autonomous musical culture, i.e. the notated opuses of Czech and Slovak composers who worked in the selected period. The lectures are conceived as excursions to individual topics or specific composers and compositions.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will know the basic development trends of Czech music after 1945 and will be able to identify the main personalities of the creation.

  • Introducing the cycle The music we don't want 1) Post-war construction 2) The issue of socialist realism 3) From the failure of the 1st Five-Year Plan to criticism of the "cult of personality" Music that should have been silenced 1) Formalism, cosmopolitanism - politically incorrect 2) The issue of free creation 3) Penetration of New Music Silence in music and silence instead of music 1) The search for an individual language 2) Experimental creation 3) From III. descent after the Prague Spring Music that has ceased to exist 1) The year 1968 and the start of normalization
