Course objectives
The aim of this course is to familiarize students with Italian literature, above all contemporary production, following thematic paths.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will be able to -read and understand some pages taken from contemporary Italian literary and editorial production -focus on style and subject belonging to each author we deal with -contextualize works and authors with reference to history and culture -compare works and authors
Syllabus
  • We will read pages from different texts (fiction and non-fiction) from professional and non professional writers such as, for example, renowned chefs or cartoonists. We will observe their style, language and themes. Each year different genres and themes will be dealt with. Among genres: short story, novel, biography, autobiography, essay, comic strips etc. Among themes: children literature, detective stories, Young contemporary writers etc. The pertinent bibliography will be given at the beginning of the course.

Teaching methods
Lectures and class discussion. Students should read the texts befor classes, except for specific occasions.
Assessment methods
Once enrolled in the course, attendance is mandatory (minimum 75%). Students have to write 4-5 short essays. Students have to prepare a PowerPoint presentation regarding one aspect/author dealt with in the course. Final written exam.
