Course objectives
A systematic survey of Italian morphology; parallels with other Romance languages and references to historical roots of different phenomena. Linguistic competence level at the beginning of the course: A2. Linguistic competence level at the end of the course (I, II, III, i.e. after three semesters): C2. At the end of the Normative Grammar of Italian (Part I), the student should be able to understand - in detail on the synchronical level, and at least partly on the diachronical level – all the (mainly) morphological problems related to articles, nouns and adjectives, and should be able to apply this knowledge both to the practical use of the Italian language as well as to its theoretical description.
Syllabus
  • The theoretical part of the course in Normative Grammar of Italian (Part I) focuses above all on the description of articles, nouns and adjectives; the grammatical phenomena will be illustrated by original texts. In the practical part of the course, various exercises and analysis of Italian literary texts will lead the students to a better understanding of phonological, morphological and syntactical problems of the contemporary Italian language.
