Course objectives
The aim of this course is the understanding of the key forms of the media (re)presentation of the culture. Our attention should be focused on the contemporary masmedia (technical press, newspaper, broadcasting, television and internet). An important part of the course will be payed to the talks with the media representatives.
Syllabus
  • 1. Inroduction, basic notions. 2. Art criticism, its development, function and position. 3. Editor work in the technical press - talk to the editor 4. Basic principles of the journalism 5. Possibilities of the art presentation in media 6. Dramaturgy of the broadcasting - visit in the Czech Radio 7. Analysis of the daily press 8. Culture on the screen 9. Critic of the television 10. From concept to the praxis - talk to the TV director 11. Masmedia construction of the frame of culture representation 12. Internet - open space for open discourse?

Assessment methods
Lecture. To obtain a credit, final essay must be handed in the extent of 9800-12600 characters. One of the following topics is required: 1. Memory of a media - amnesia versus immortality 2. Press and a culture - playmates or rivals? 3. Radio as a multimedia? 4. Art shining on the screen - TV as a space for the living culture? 5. Advertisment - from promotion to manipulation 6. Nooks and crannies of internet - new phenomenons, Web 2.0 etc.
