Course objectives
The course develops skills and competences of librarians in the field of participation in educational activities of libraries. Students will learn how to organize, prepare and practically realize educational activities in the context of academic Libraries and memory institutions under the mentoring of teachers and librarians from practice.

- propose appropriate educational activity
- set relevant educational objectives
- to organize and implement educational activities in practice
- evaluate the course and impacts of educational activity
- reflect on your own training position as a "teaching librarian"
Syllabus
  • For the spring 2024 semester, the actual environment for student activities according to their preferences will be the Central Library of the MU Faculty of Arts, and the Knihovna Na Křižovatce. The outline of the course is intended for the semester activity of individual students (or in pairs - for the Knihovna Na Křižovatce).
  • Mentoring program in the educational activities of the Central Library of the Faculty of Arts of the MU under the leadership of Mgr. Tereza Schwarzová Matýsová, guaranteed by dr. Pavlína Mazáčová: - shadowing a teaching librarian from the team of librarians of the ÚK FF MU - eavesdropping in the teaching of the teaching librarian - tandem teaching - cooperation with the teaching librarian on teaching activities within the library's information education for students and also within the teaching of information skills in some departments of the FF MU - independent management of partial parts of tandem teaching under the supervision of a mentor-teaching librarian - evaluation and reflection of student activities within the mentoring program
  • Knihovna na Křižovatce - training semester for the position "teaching librarian" - guaranteed by dr. Pavlína Mazáčová, organizationally guaranteed by Mgr. Tomas Marek: - mapping the educational needs of the target group and education topics, the possibility of establishing cooperation with local institutions (schools, kindergartens, organizations for the elderly, etc.) - designing educational activities with the help of KISku guarantors - PR and marketing of educational activities with the help of KISku guarantors - implementation of educational activities - evaluation of the educational activity - reflection of the training activity of the "teaching librarian"
Teaching methods
The subject has a practical form. In smaller teams, students, in cooperation with the libraries of Faculty of Arts MU and "Knihovna Na Křižovatce" in Brno, prepare and implement educational activities for readers and visitors to the institution. Students consult their project with teachers of the subject. At the beginning and end of the semester there will be a common organizational and informative lesson.
Assessment methods
Credit conditions:
- prepare or realize the selected activity according to a specific assignment
- have a positive assessment of the activity by the institution for which the activity originated
- reflection of work with teachers and librarians
