JAP103 Introduction to Japan. Studies
The student would ideally have finished the Intro to Japanese Studies course, though this is not a prerequisite. It also ideal if the student finishes tje Japanese History course before taking Japanese Literature.

Course objectives
The course offers a general introduction to the issue of Japanese history, from its oldest times through the first half of the 20th century. It gives a general overview of fundamental historical, economic, social and cultural aspects. The student will attain knowledge about individual periods, important events and personalities. After finishing the course, the student will be able to identify the periods of Japanese history; to locate important figures, events and processes in the general context of Japansese history; evaluate the importance of historical phenomena and personalities in the context of Japanese history.

Final written/oral exam as assigned by the tutor. Students are expected and required to attend seminar classes of this course.
