Course objectives
The aim of this course is to introduce students with causes, course and consequences of the most destroying war conflict in Europe after the end of the Second World War, that took place in the are of Croatia and Bosnia and Hercegovina in the years 1991 - 1995. What were the causes of dissolution of Yugoslavia and subsequent bloodshed? Who were the actors and what was their motivation? How did the situation in the war field develop? What was the role of diplomatic and backstage deals in the outbreak, course and end of the conflict? Who were the victims of the war in former Yugoslavia and why were they the object of brutal violence? What are the prevailing consequences of bloodshed that still need to be coped with by the Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian and Montenegrin society? These are some of the crucial questions we will seek answer for.
Learning outcomes
Absolvent will be able to explain causes of war in the former Yugoslavia in 1991 - 1995 characterize its actors and victims, describe its course and name its prevailing consequences.
