Prerequisites
Seminary is based on reading of the examples from representative literary works, that means solid and consistent home preparation. Only works translated to Czech will be discussed. Students will decide themselves if they will read the work in translation or in original.

Course objectives
The aim of this course is to provide an overview of development of South Slavic literatures of 19th and beginning of 20th century in European context and contrastive perspective. Students will, based contextual analysis of representative works, lectures and study literature, be introduced to dominant features, milestones and local specifics of literary romanticism, realism and modernism in South Slavic area. Focus will be given on connections between literature and making of national identity of South Slavs.
Learning outcomes
Absolvent will gain overview about the most significant authors and works during the formative era of modern South Slavic literature development in context of European romanticism, realism and modernism. Students will enhance their ability to analyse and interpret literary work and will be able to explain and critically examine creation, importance and dangers in the conception of national literature and its application in the South Slavic area during the "long" 19th century (1789 - 1914).

Prerequisites for granting the credit: regular attendance and thorough home preparation on weekly basis participation in class discussion. Oral exam.
