Course objectives
Slovenian/Croatian/Serbian/Bulgarian language course focused on extending of the vocabulary (professional and technical terms), phraseology, active speech abilities. Complex comprehension of Slovene / Croatian / Serbian / Bulgarian language.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course students should be able to describe new grammar phenomena acquired in this semester and use the knowledge in spoken and written interaction. By the means of acquiring new vocabulary and grammar they can create text or speak about related topics. Students are able to understand written text and interpret it.
Syllabus
  • Slovenian:
  • Personal pronouns and their declension, other types of pronouns and their usage, linking sentences, adverbs.
  • Croatian:
  • Aorist, imperfect, verbal regimen, punctuation, word-order, interpretation of a short story, translation from Czech to Croatian, conversation.
  • Serbian:
  • Fishing. Passive; writing punctuation, writing names.
  • Bad calculation. Verbal noun; female nouns ending with consonant; writing č, ć, ž, š.
  • On the street. Deminutives; augmentatives; collective nouns.
  • Brr, cold! Ethnics names; questionable words, writing commas; usage of conditional in speaking about events in past tense.
  • Hunting story. Aorist; adjectives, use alternation ije/je, ije/e.
  • "Koliko ljudi, toliko ćudi." Imperfect; relative pronouns, relative sentences; writing commas.
  • "Jedna lasta ne čini proleće." Numerous adjectives, comparative and superlative, numbers.
  • In Montenegro. Revision.
  • Bulgarian:
  • 1. Vocabulary on business.
  • 2. Grammar exercises.
  • 3. Vocabulary on tourism.
  • 4. Verbs in Bulgarian.

Teaching methods
Seminar (two hours per week), home preparation, translations from respective South Slavic languages to Czech, in the seminar a combination of teacher-led activities and student-centered/group learning activities will be employed.
Assessment methods
Regular attendance, homework and home preparation required. Students must hand in a series of essays, translation of several articles and to pass a final test.
