Course objectives
Comparative view on the phraseology of Czech, Croatian, Serbian and Bulgarian. Comparison of the theoretical approaches to phraseology and idiomatics; phrasem and idiom; what is and what is not phrasem/idiom; paremiology and its relation to phraseology and idiomatics (proverbs, sayings, quotes, etc.); phraseological analysis; translation of phraseology; Czech and South Slavonic phraseological dictionaries.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students will
- be able to demonstrate the knowledge of South Slavonic phraseology
- have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of phraseology
- have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of comparative study of South Slavonic languages
- be familiar with South Slavonic phraseology
- contrast and compare Czech and South Slavonic languages.
