- This course is designed for first-year master's students at SCS MUNI. The department standard is that such students should have a minimum of HSK 5 or CEFR B1 level.
- The course is offered exclusively to the students of the Chinese Department of Masaryk University.
- Exceptions could be made if an Erasmus student has Chinese Studies as their major at their home university and if the student can present documented proof. Language proficiency certificates (HSK/TOCFL) are NOT accepted.

Course objectives
The students learn advanced skills in academic writing - in terms of grammar, style and vocabulary and Chinese academic conventions. They also practice how to discuss their own writing in Chinese.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- understand and use the specifics of Chinese written academic style;
- understand and employ the specifics of Chinese academic conventions in writing Chinese academic text;
- discuss own's writing with a native speaker in full Chinese;
- complete an essay of 5 pages in Chinese.
Syllabus
  • The course does not have a fixed syllabus, only with the first class meeting being the time stipulated in the IS. The Czech student bring his/her writing (progress below) to the online individual meeting with the Taiwanese assistant every week (preferably during the class time), to discuss how to improve the writing. The Czech student work on the essay weekly and progressively, which results in the final product (an academic essay of at least 5 pages).

Teaching methods
Weekly assignments and online discussions in Chinese.
Assessment methods
Weekly meeting with the assistant. Up to two unexcused absences tolerated. A student who has three unexcused absences fails the course.
Students submit a 5-page essay in Chinese (in Homework Vault in the IS).
Format of essay: Single-spaced; font: 標楷; font size: 12. Content of essay: it can be a topic of the student's own choice, such as the student's bachelor thesis.
Submission deadline: 3 January, 2022.
