Course objectives
The aim of this course is to explain what fascism is, how and why historians, political scientists, sociologists, and other scholars used different definitions, and to show, how these definitions can be used on specific historic cases. The course will concentrate on the character of fascism, expressed in both its Italian and German forms, but also in a number of other movements in Europe, with special focus on the specific manifestations of fascism in Asia: in China and Japan.
Learning outcomes
- after completing the course, student will be able to identify fascism and fascist movements and recognize which of them can be considered fascist and which not

- student will understand the philosophical and ideological roots of fascist ideology and the way in which they formed specific national permutations of fascism

- student will understand the historical and political evolution of fascist regimes in Germany and Italy and selected fascist movements in Europe and Asia

- student will be able to analyze the current (neo)fascist movements put this into the comparative perspective with movements in the inter-war period

- Understand and describe the factors that influence the growth of fascism and identify the dangers resulting from this growth
