Prerequisites

- Upon entry, students are expected to have a solid proficiency level of CEFR A1.2 (or a solid HSK 3).
- The course is offered EXCLUSIVELY to the students of the Chinese Department of Masaryk University.
- Exceptions could be made ONLY IF an Erasmus student has Chinese Studies as their major at their home university and if the student can present documented proof. Language proficiency certificates (HSK/TOCFL) are NOT accepted.

Course objectives
To help students familiarize themselves with contents already instructed in Chinese V. Enrollment is strongly recommended.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- understand the main points of speech on familiar matters regularly encountered at work, school, leisure, etc.;
- understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency words or job-related language;
- deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken;
- enter a conversation on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events);
- present clear and detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to his/her own field of interest;
- explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

  • This course (Chinese V) uses HSK 4A (Lesson 1-10; i.e., 10 lessons + 2 review weeks), following the order of the textbook's lessons.

Teaching methods
The course is taught by a native speaker who combines various methods of teaching - seminars, class discussion, conversation, homework, written/oral presentations, etc.
Assessment methods
1) Attendance (up to 2 unexcused absences are allowed in one semester). In case of 3 or more unexcused absences, the student fails.
2) In order for an absence to be excused, the student should approach the Study Department of the Faculty with an official request.
3) The student needs to fulfill all the tasks given by the teacher (assignments, presentations, etc.) Unpreparedness is judged as absence.
4) Students must not switch study groups, unless the teacher explicitly approved.
