Course objectives
The course is designed to provide the student with a proper working environment which the student may take advantage of to practice her Chinese and to accustom herself to the Chinese working culture. The student may choose to participate in an internship that the department has already arranged, or find an internship on her own and seek approval from the department before she registers for the course. An interview in Chinese is also necessary before a permission is granted for the student to enroll in the course.

Assessment methods
This is a Pass/Fail course. At the end of the internship, the student is required to provide a written self-evaluation, detailing what she learned from the internship. At the end of the internship, the instructor may orally examine the student too, if need be. In addition, the student is responsible for obtaining a letter from the supervisor at her host institute (owner of restaurant, manager at company, etc.), stating that the student worked there for at least 20 hours in one semester, with Chinese as the major working language. The student is required to present all the above documents to the instructor in order to receive the credits.
