Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to give basic survey of principal life values of the ancient people and societies (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Israel, Greece, Rome, India and China). These values are observed from the point of view of religion, philosophy and ethics of everyday life. The special attention is paid to family life, social order, the relation between rich and poor people, attitude toward the nature and question of voluntary simplicity and modesty (in the sense of consumption and lifestyle).

  • Myšlenka světového řádu a souvislost "božského" a "lidského" práva ve starověku počínajíc raně dynastickým obdobím Sumeru; uměřenost, skromnost, štědrost, soucit a spravedlnost v hodnotovém systému civilizací starověkého Předního Orientu; místo týchž hodnot v řeckém a římském světě; životní hodnoty starověku ve vztahu k uspořádání státu a společnosti; sociální teorie a praxe; vztah starověkých lidí k přírodě.
