Course objectives
The Part III acquaints students with the special features of some consonants in the syllable, especially laryngals, and applies this knowledge to regular flexions of laryngals. It further deepens the understanding of Hebrew syntax and presents it on reading of more advanced texts. Attention will also be paid to the special verbal modes of cohortative and jussive. The aim of this course is to enable students a more independent reading of the biblical text.
Learning outcomes
After completing this course, the student will be able: • recognize the letters of the Hebrew alphabet in both basic and final form • vocalization marks • accents • a particular member • pronunciation of sounds • numerus • genus • status constructus and status absolutus • presentation of 7 verb classes • conjunctions • recognize the word root and derive other words from it

  • The lessons will be divided into grammatical and literary part: • state verbs • negative order • cohortative • jussive • verbal class hitpael • verbal class nifal (mediopasivum) • perfect and imperfect • pronominal suffixes of perfect • pronominal suffixes of imperfect

Teaching methods
The main part of the course will be dedicated to an explanation of advanced Hebrew grammar by using biblical passages, reading and explanation of terms and their contextualization.
Assessment methods
Text preparation for lessons (interpretation, short translations, reading of materials before the lesson etc.), 60% attendance, presentation on a chosen topic.
