Course objectives
The course introduces the student to the crucial historical stages of the Mediterranean since the end of Antiquity, it focuses on the development in the Middle Ages, in the Modern era and the 20th century. It also deals with the current situation in the region.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- define and order the historical periods from the Middle Ages to the present, taking into account the specifics of the region;
- characterize key historical stages and events in the Mediterranean and present them in their mutual context;
- name international organizations active in the Mediterranean and explain the work of the Union for the Mediterranean;
- explain selected long-term or current political and/or social issues in the region and identify their main actors;
- identify major historical intercultural influences in the region.
