Course objectives
The course is designed as a introduction to theory of fiction and fictionality. The main concepts of fiction are introduced in their historical contexts, their strong and week points are emphasized. The course also allows students to apply the theoretical knowledge to particular fictional and non-fictional texts.
Learning outcomes
After having finished the course the students will be able to:
- understand the main problems in defining fiction;
- know basic theories of fiction;
- understand the historical dimension of fictionality;
- apply the finding to particular literary texts.

  • Concepts of fictionality, Fictional and non-fictional reference, Fictional and factual narrative, Modernist and post-modernist fiction and history, Realist narrative, Typology of fictional worlds, Autobiography and autofiction, Literary myth, Fantastic literature.
