This course is intended for students in the first year of the master study of Dutch language and literature.

Course objectives
In this course language skills are practises; both receptive and productive skills are trained. The focus is on vocabulary, but also reading, listening, and writing assignements are given.
This course partly consists of weekly classes (two hours) that are aimed at acquiring new vocabulary and training speaking skills. The other part consists of self study - grammar and academic writing are exercised. Every two weeks assignments concerning these topics are evaluated and discussed.
Learning outcomes

Teaching methods
Intensive student-orientated seminars: writing, reading, conversation, presentations, prosody, listening and language exercises.
Assessment methods
Presence and active participation are required. The student prepares weekly assignments. Two tests during the semester are scheduled. If the students passes these tests and meets the other requirements, he/she can take the exam, that consists of an oral and written part.
