Course objectives
The course provides an introduction to the didactics of German as a foreign language and its theoretical foundations. Special emphasis of the course lies on the social, institutional and linguistic-political framework of language teaching, the reflection on its central subject from a foreign language didactic perspective and on different concepts and methods of teaching German as a foreign language. Furthermore a first insight into aspects and possibilities of class room observation will be given.
Learning outcomes
- The students know important basic concepts of foreign language didactics. - They have insight into important contextual conditions and factors of foreign language teaching and can describe and critically reflect on important methods of foreign language teaching - Students will be guided by the latest methodological development of foreign language didactics - They are capable to broader their knowlege due to the reading of secondary literature.

Assessment methods
Reading-related task: Summary and reflection of central theses of two academic articles on a topic of the course. An attendance of at least 75% is mandatory.
