Course objectives
The popular play is generally regarded as a phenomenon unique in the German-speaking world, which found its equal only on the stage in Paris or London. But is it really true? Is not the story of "folk" theater play more or less a synopsis of various fragments? We want to look at the following points together:
Where are the roots of the popular piece?
What story has the "folk piece" gone through?
Which aesthetic, dramaturgical, historical and socio-cultural (public, theater criticism, censorship) foundations were and are closely linked to the folk song?
How does a line of connection of the folk play to the drama of the 20th and 21st centuries exist?
Which persons shaped the Volksstück?
And finally, what is the folk song? A genus, a phenomenon or a principle?
