Prerequisites
A fair knowledge of traditional Czech grammar analysis (e.g. Vladimír Šmilauer).
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
Course objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to understand and use a functional-structuralist way from morphemes, minimal language signs, to a hierarchically ordered inventory of sentence-making means of a language system.
Syllabus
  • 1) Language as a form of speech. 2) Sentence vs. statement. 3) Morpheme and sing. 4) Linguistic sign in abstract system and concrete texts. 5) Criteria of synonymy. 6) Srructuration of the sense of sentence 7) Levels of description.

Assessment methods
Written examination consisting of 6 questions focusing on the basic notions of the discipline. For the final written exam student have to pass three written exams during the trimester!
