Course objectives
This course is dedicated to the noun phrases (NP). We will explore the formal descriptions of syntax and semantics of NPs. In the syntactic part our background will be generative grammar, in the semantic part, it will be formal semantics. We will describe specific slavic and Czech aspects of NPs but also we will deal with the universal maping of syntactic structures to their logical forms.
Syllabus
  • This course is all about noun phrases, their syntax and semantics. Methods: generative grammar and formal semantics. Keywords: constituent structure of NP, semantics of proper names and predicates, indexicals, reference.
