Course objectives
The aim of the course is to get students oriented in the demands of guidance and counseling work and in the offer of counselling services in the Czech Republic. The first part of the course focuses on selected groups of counselling theories, which are widely used in first-hand work with the client and provide students with the insight into the guidance of counselling process. Attention is also paid to particular counseling types, the offer of counselling services in the Czech Republic and requirements for personality of counsellors and working contitions in selected fields of counselling services in the Czech Republic.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to - explain the fundamental principles related to guidance of counselling process according to Rogers' theory, according to cognitive-behavioral approach, according to the system theory in the counselling
- to describe the structure of counselling services within helping occupations in the Czech Republic
- to list legislative and other conditions which regulate providing of counselling services in the Czech Republic
- to describe the conditions of using types of counselling services
- to formulate demands on counselling work and to reflect their relation to counselling
Syllabus
  • Course outline
  • 1. Basic characteristics of advising, guidance and counselling. Counselling, therapy, teaching.
  • 2. The types of the counselling and guidance services (social guidance services, career guidance, psychology counselling etc.)
  • 3. The structure of the guidance and counselling services within helping occupations in the Czech Republic
  • 4. Guidance and counselling professions. Training of the guidance and counselling practitioners (training-based and competence-based approach, the role of professional associations and network in the education and training, the support of the professional development)
  • 5. The overview of counselling theories and their characteristics
  • 6. Rogers' theory/therapy and personal centred approach
  • 7. Behavioral and cognitive-behavioral theory/therapy.
  • 8. Systemic therapy and approach in counselling
  • 9. Guidance and counselling process and communication in this process
  • 10.-11. Methods and forms of the guidance and counselling process
  • 12. Conclusion: strategy of the guiding counselling process, professional roles in this process, professional/ethical dilemmas
