Course objectives
The aim of course is to acqauint students with the basic terms and theoretical fundaments of social work. The course launches students to the contemporary theoretical models of social intervention (social work) a shows them the possibilities of its practical application. Students will understand to social work as the multipradigmatical branch in the range of helping professions and be able to asess and solve the case of client from the point of view of different approaches.
Learning outcomes
After the finnishing the course student will be able to:
- identify the basic theories for the social work practice,
- solve the case of client from the point of view of different approaches,
- use the theories for his/her own self-development and for prevention of bourn-out syndrome
- reflect the literature by prismatic spectacles of selected criteria,
- write an essay and critically reflect the theories in social work.
Syllabus
  • 1.-2. Introduction
  • Has the social work its history? Social work and industrial revolution. What is social work? Social work as science and art. Social work as a profession. The aim of social work. Social work activities. Resources and characteristics of social work. Some historical dilemmas of social work. Social work and related branches. Modern Social Work and Theories
  • Three concepts of social work. Czech social work. Characteristics of social work theories. The function of theory in the social work. Kinds of theories in the social work. The surveys of aplication of the social work theory in practice. Theories analysis.
  • 3. Psychosocial approach and task centred approach. The phases of the EOA. The techniques used in individual phases.
  • 4. Psychodynamic Perspectives Psychoanalysis, The theory of personality. The development of personality. Defence mechanisms. Therapy. The function of psychoanalysis.
  • 5. Humanistic and Existential Perspectives (Existentialist and humanistic concepts of social work in context. The bases of humanistic and existential theory of social work. the clientward oriented approach. Transactional analysis. Thompson: existentialism and social work).
  • 6. Humanistic and Existential Perspectives (V.E.Frankl Existential analysis. Freedeom and responsibility. The question of the meaning of life. The meaning of life. Values. Noogenic dynamics. The fate. The time. The hardship and death. The refusal of the reductionism. Dimensional ontology. What is a logotherapy? The neccessity of a logotherapy - existencial vacuum. Logotherapy as an art. Logotherapy-religion relationship. The relationship with the client. Specific techniques in logotherapy).
  • 7. Socio-psychilogical and communicative models. Systemic and narrative approach. The theory of roles. Labelling theory. The theory of communication in social work. Strategic therapy. Selected terms of strategic approach. Three ways of solving the problem.
  • 8. Cognitive-behaviouristic Theory. (Behaviourism theory. Behaviourism techniques. The role of the social worker. Cognitive-behaviouristic concept and social work).

  • What is a community? The definition of the community work. The aims of the community work. Basic characteristics of community work. The community work approaches and its methods. The phases of the community work.

Závěrečná písemná zkouška složená z otevřených a uzavřených otázek (k úspěšnému složení zkoušky musí student získat alespoň 60 % z maxima bodů), esej na téma reflexe monografie z teorie sociální práce v rozsahu min. 5 normostran.
