Course objectives
The course introduces social pediatrics as an independent branch of study. For a major part of the semester, it focuses on the complex system of Czech child care. The aim of the course is to present problems of a complex child care in families and institutions. It presents the care for the development of healthy children and children threatened by a risky social environment, ill and disabled children.
Learning outcomes
Students should be able to:
- discuss current topics in Social pediatrics
- describe the risk factors in relation to the health of children and adolescents
- formulate the principles for educational work with sick and disabled children, with children growing up in a risky social environment, neglected children
-discuss criteria for placement of child in institutional care
- “indicate” a service from a care system on selected types of examples.
Syllabus
  • 1. Vývoj a pojetí sociální pediatrie, základní informace o oboru, nové pojetí, základní pojmy, domácí i zahraniční kontext.
  • 2. Postavení dítěte ve společnosti. Potřeby, práva a povinnosti dětí. Mezinárodní i národní základní právní normy.
  • 3. Rodina, její význam, funkce rodiny a její poruchy, péče o dítě. Rodiče, kteří se nemohou, nechtějí a neumí o dítě postarat.
  • 4. Systém péče o děti vyrůstající mimo rodinu.
  • 5. Dítě ohrožené, rizikové, s postižením, sociálně maladaptované dítě.
  • 6. Zdraví a nemoc. Akutně a chronicky nemocné děti a možnosti zdravotní péče o ně.
  • 7. Rizikové faktory ve vztahu ke zdraví. Rizikové skupiny v populaci. Faktory ovlivňující zdraví. Úrazy a otravy jako nejzávažnější problém dětského věku.
  • 8. Děti a rodiny jiných etnik, minority, cizinci, migranti, bezdomovci.
  • 9. Děti v chudobě a pracovně zneužívané. Děti na ulici x děti ulice.
  • 10. Kriminalita páchaná na dětech, kriminalita páchaná dětmi, kriminalita páchaná dětmi na dětech.
  • 11. Syndrom CAN. Dětská prostituce, pornografie, komerční sexuální zneužívání.
  • 12. Systém zdravotní péče o děti a mládež a mezinárodní spolupráce v péči o děti (WHO, UNICEF).

Assessment methods
Lectures with discussions. Credit. Students must attend classes during the semester. In case a student has many absences, a home-written work on a given topic will be required. Written test.
