Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand key issues of the philosophy of truth and semantic paradoxes; explain key fatures of Russell's, Tarski's and Kripke's theory of truth and the solution to semantic paradoxes; be orientated in the basic problems of contemporary discussion concerning truth and semantic paradoxes;

  • Russell's paradox and other set-theoretical paradoxes
  • Russell's (ramified) theory of types
  • Tarski's semantic theory of true, hierarchy of languages
  • Kripke's theory of truth and other three-valued approaches
  • Contextualism, revisionism, dialetheism
