Course objectives
Reading and interpretation of Popper´s The Poverty of Historicism. In the seminar, students will prepare presentations on other Popper´s works. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand Popper´s concept of society and basics of his approach to scientific method.
Syllabus
  • K. R. Popper: Life and work
  • Reading of The Poverty of Historicism. The course of the interpretation will be influenced by the specificity of each seminar.
  • Relation between social and natural sciences.
  • Popper and social philosophy and philosophy of history.

Teaching methods
After the introductory lecture on Popper, students will read and analyze his work The Poverty of Historicism. The interpretation of the text will be supplemented by presentations on selected Popper´s work and critical work on Popper.
