Course objectives

The goal of the course is to offer the students the possibility to discuss the topics of the course PHBD1 (History of Philosophy I.

Learning outcomes

After the completion of the course, students should be able to:
- identify main types of the interpretation of reality in the times from Thales to Aristotle;
- explain consecutiveness of thinking of this epoch;
- explain the basic philosophical problems;
- describe the thinking of the most important philosophers in the period from Thales to Aristotle.

• 1. Discussion of the topics 1-4 of the course History of Philosophy I (Introduction - Heraclitus)
• 2. Discussion of the topics 5-8 of the course History of Philosophy I (Eleatics - Socrates)
• 3. Discussion of the topics 9-10 of the course History of Philosophy I (Plato and Aristotle)

Assessment methods

Credits will be given for the active participation in lectures (the activity means to put a question to the topics of the lecture.
It is possible to compensate one absence with the written elaboration of the questions, which you would like to discuss in the lecture, including short explanation of why is the topic unclear for you.
The elaboration should have 500-1000 characters (including spaces) and it is to be sent to e-mail jospet@mail.muni.cz, preferably before the lesson (so that questions can be discussed), in case of medical disability no later than the next lesson (in case of the last lesson before the start of the exam period.
