Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to create a comprehensive picture of the events of March 1968 and their consequences as they are captured in literature - starting with non-fiction and reports, through sociological studies and ending with fiction; that is, to create a kind of socio-cultural map of the strategies of Jewish cultural survival - with an extraordinary emphasis on memory, both in the first and in the second generation of Polish Jewish authors after March 68.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- understand and explain the so-called March events of 1968 and the associated anti-Semitic campaign
- to analyze and confront the central (existential) themes of Polish Jewish authors with different experiences after 1968 - exile experience vs. survival strategy in PRL
-to analyze the key themes of selected Polish Jewish authors of the so-called second generation
