Course objectives
The student reads a contemporary prose by Polish author (1st edition of the book after 1989). From 100 pages of the book the student excerpts all unknown vocabulary and phrases. The main goal of the course is to gain the ability to understand a coherent literary text, to be able to understand its grammatical structures and to further enrich own vocabulary and phraseology.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able:
- to work independently with texts in Polish,
- to analyze the literary text from a linguistic and stylistic point of view,
- to apply knowledges from the lectures on the Polish grammar (lexicology),
- to describe a language of the selected contemporary Polish prose.
Syllabus
  • The course doesn't have a fixed timetable. The course is based on independent reading and excerption of the selected text.
  • 1. Selection of the text. Deadline: 15th October (autumn semester)/ 15th March (spring semester).
  • 2. Reading and sending (PDF scan) of the selected text. Deadline: 15th November (autumn semester)/ 15th April (spring semester).
  • 3. Excerption of the text, preparation of a vocabulary of unknown words and idioms.
  • 4. Sending of the Polish-Czech/Slovak vocabulary. Deadline: 3 workdays before an oral exam.
  • 5. Oral examination.

Assessment methods
Oral exam – requirements: good knowledge of the lexicon and phraseology based on the vocabulary list, ability to read and traslate any part of the the text.
