Course objectives
The course is focused on gaining of basic skills during translating of various text types represented by the collection of the texts with very different topics. The focus is on practical seminars among other in the translation of documents, publicistic and literary texts, mainly poetry and prose, with the advice of an experienced translator, we will discuss different translation procedures and techniques.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student:
- acquire basic skills, including translation of factual, publicistic and artistic texts;
- will know basic literature on theoretical and applied translatology;
- will have a theoretical background and use the translator's procedures;
- will be able to work with specific texts and lexicographical works.
Syllabus
  • Every class has this structure:
  • 1. a brief presentation of selected translation problem, basic terms in the field of translation and translation studies,
  • 2. team work on a Polish text,
  • 3. reading of the translated text with comments.

Teaching methods
Lectures, practical translatological execises. A regular attendance is mandatory, however there is a focus on self-study of assigned study materials.
Assessment methods
Class participation. Written test (score evaluation, pass/fail line: 60 %).
