Course objectives
The course will be conducted in cooperation with Phonexia, s. r. o. (https://www.phonexia.com). The students will experience how to acquire and annotate language data for speech analysis (speech recognition and speaker recognition). Each student will be tasked with providing three recordings of spontaneous speech in Czech (monologue or dialogue) and transcribing the recordings according to the transcription rules that are used in company practice. Three types of recordings will be processed - a phone call from a mobile phone, a phone call via Skype, a recording of the conversation on the recorder. When selecting speakers, the variety is required in terms of sociolinguistic categories - age, education, gender and dialect. The freely available Transcriber app (http://trans.sourceforge.net) will be used for transcription. Every student will provide at least 3 recordings in which the same speaker will perform using different types of devices (mobile phone, Skype, recorder). Required length of one recording is about 3 minutes. If interested, students can continue to work in Phonexia as interns.
