Course objectives
In the autumn semester of 2021, the course will focus on making recordings and their transcription for the Institute of the Czech National Corpus. Students will thus contribute to building a new spoken corpus. It is possible to get a financial reward from ÚČNK for quality recordings and transcripts.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- understand the issues of acquiring and annotating spoken data;
- understand phonetics of the Czech language;
- provide transcriptions according to prescribed rules;
- work with ELAN app.
Syllabus
  • 1. Familiarizing students with the issue.
  • 2. Assigning the rules for uploading and transcribing the data, getting familiar with ELAN app.
  • 3. Sample transcriptions, practice transcription.
  • 4. Recording and consultation space.
  • 5. Editing and transcribing the recording.
  • 6. Final consultations.

Teaching methods
Workshop (transcripts), independent work (recordings), discussion and consultation.
Assessment methods
Active participation in seminars, providing recordings in good quality and their transcription according to given annotation rules.
