Předmět je koncipován jako volné pokračování povinně volitelného předmětu Úvod do dějin a kultury Portugalska, který je pravidelně vyučován v zimním semestru. Absolvování Úvodu do dějin a kultury Portugalska není podmínkou pro zápis do tohoto přednáškového cyklu.

Course objectives
The aim of the course of Selected Chapters of Portuguese History and Culture is to deepen knowledge of students in the area of history and culture of Portugal and other Portuguese speaking countries. Lectures are divided according to the chronological order, focusing primarily the historical evolution of the social institutions and constituent categories of production of art such as architecture or painting. At the end of this course, students should be able to clarify basic historical-cultural connections and place the selected phenomenons in the period context. They should also be able to explain fundamental definitions referring to this topic.

Teaching methods
Seminar: Lectures are connected with the class discussion on selected issues. Students are encouraged to work independently or in small groups, they should also be able to search for relevant infomation resources, discuss and present selected topics.
Assessment methods
Credit: is obtained for attendance and active participation in the course (min. 80 %) and after successfully completing a final test where students prove their knowledge of the selected issues. In disputed assessment cases the professor can ask the students for an additional interview over a presentation made in the seminar.
