Course objectives
The main objective of the seminar is a complex analysis of journalistic and publicistic texts of various genres: their translation from Russian into Czech in the view of practice with theoretical commentaries. The course is based on lexicological and grammar attainments and phenomena. The aim of the course is a detailed confrontation on the basis of concrete texts. For each seminar students must translate 1 NS of a current Russian journalistic text from the Internet. Translations will be analysed in connection with translation problems and adequacy of a select resolution. The theoretical and practical matter of the course develops such knowledge and skills, which are necessary to manage with all phases of a translation process: first of all, careful reading, understanding of single levels of significance, identification of symbolic designations, idioms, allusion and pragmatic signals. Students will also try to find different possibilities of text interpretation. Special attention will be paid to the development of stylistic competence in the object language of a translation, i.e. in the Czech language.
