Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to offer an introduction to Text Linguistics. a) Complex text analysis; b) Correferential relations - text coherence a cohesion. c) Thematic Sequence and its Importance for the Interpretation of Texts. d) The function of Connectors in sentences. e) Functional Sentence Perspective and its importance.
Learning outcomes
Student who successfully complete the course are acquainted with: a) basic terminology in the field of Translation studies, b) main principles of translation practice.
Syllabus
  • The seminars focus on the practical aspects of translation, including the systematic use of translation tools, the identification of relevant internet sources, the proper use of specialized terminology, the processing of glossaries, the creation of a resume,etc. Main topics: - translation and interpretation of social science texts - translation and interpretation of science text - life and institutions in translations - translation of legal texts - Spanish i EU institutions and organizations - administrative Spanish

Teaching methods
Introductory classes offer specialized terminology with an overview of basic concepts and their definitions. In the seminars students are expected to make use of theoretical knowledge, while working with different sort of texts based on thorough previous preparation.
Assessment methods
Regular homework is required. Students should meet assignment submission deadlines. Written exam (success rate 70%).
