Course objectives
Specialized seminar focused on Literary translation.Particular projects are dedicated to one Literary gender. Previous preparation and regular homework are required.
Learning outcomes
Students are aquainted with the basic principles of translation and with the specific aspects of literary translation. Students are able to make use of their knowledge in practice.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to Literary translation. Task assignment. 2. Specific features of Literary translation. 3. Translation strategies. Analysis of sample fragments. 4. Workshop I. Analysis of selected Spanish texts. 5. Workshop II. Translation strategies. 6. Workshop III. problematic Translation issues and their solution. 7. Workshop IV. Specific features of literary translation. 8. Student presentations of draft proposals I. 9. Student presentations of draft proposals II. 10. Workshop V. - Examples of the most problematic situations of particular texts and their solutions. 11. Final text proofing and text editing. 12. Student presentation of the final version of their translations. Discussion.
