Course objectives
The course offers a survey of the editing process and its phases. During the semester students get aquinted with convenient methodology, that enables them the choice of effective strategies when editing particular texts. The aim of this course is for the students to acquire a critical approach to a translated text. They will benefit from it in their future work as editors or proofreaders, but also as readers and even in their own translation practice.
Learning outcomes
Students will get knowledge of the main issues concerning text editing. After completing the course, students will be capable of a critical approach to a translated text (besides others). More over, students can make efficient editing of such texts.
Syllabus
  • Introduction: Students obtain a portfolio with texts. Previous preparation is required for further work. 1. Introduction to the issue of editing. 2. Editor work. 3. Text editing.

Teaching methods
Practical course. Individual and group editing exercises. Previous preparation and regular homework are required. Active approach i classes is necessary.
Assessment methods
Satisfactory proofreading of a low-quality translation. Conditions for admission to the examination include: at least 85% attendance of lessons. Students should meet the assignment submission deadlines.
