Course objectives
The aim of the course is to get to know the basic techniques for managing stressful situations for students in various environments from study to work and personal. The course will also support the integration of non-formal education methods in the university teaching, increase students' pro-activity, support their social feelings and help students prevent mental overload or burnout.
Learning outcomes
The outcomes of the course depend on the degree of personal involvement of individual students and their willingness to use the methods and techniques acquired in their lives. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to use many specific techniques and methods, including: - be able to use various breathing techniques and self-reflective techniques of mindfulness; - will be aware of their recurring patterns of behavior and thinking traps into which they fall and will be able to work consciously with them; - will be able to observe various situations in their lives from different perspectives and will know how to approach them effectively and consciously work with them.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to stress - what is it? How does it arise and how does it manifest? What forms exist? Stress from learning 2. Principles of Mindfulness, influence of the past and future, meditation with food 3. Work under stress, stress management techniques, breathing techniques 4. Thinking traps and how to deal with them, time and its effect on stress 5. Body-scan, movement and its effect on stress, positive thinking and affirmations 6. Conscious walk, stress and nature, forest bathing, final sharing circle
Teaching methods
Active participation (individually or in groups) through communication, confrontational, (self) reflective and relaxation exercises is needed and activities with subsequent debriefing.
Assessment methods
1. Elaboration of an essay - reflection - Submission deadline: by the end of the semester - scope: at least 2 standard pages - the thematic assignment will be specified based on consultation with teachers • 2. Completion of continuous practical tasks and exercises - individual or group work on individual thematic blocks (fulfilment of at least 5 out of 7 of these continuous activities) • 3. Full participation in at least 5 out of 6 meetings • 4. Completion of a written online evaluation of the entire course
