Course objectives
The objective of the course is the introduction of Psychology of Extreme Situations basics to students. Students will learn to understand in a better way the behaviour and the needs of those who have experienced extreme situations and will acquire some basic techniques for working with them.
Syllabus
  • 1. Extreme situations
  • 2. Natural and other disasters, and catastrophes
  • 3. Stress reaction, acute reaction to stress, PTSD
  • 4. Work with above-the-limit stress – psychological first aid (work with the body, relaxation, regeneration)
  • 5. Psychology of survival in extreme situations
  • 6. Injury, death, killing
  • 7. Psychology of terrorism, negotiation
  • 8. Captivity, imprisonment, interrogation, Stanford experiment
  • 9. Psychology of long-term stays in danger zones
  • 10. Psychology and psychological preparation in strenuous training
