Prerequisites
Knowledge of the topics and literature covered by the following courses is expected: Methodology of Psychology; Developmental Psychology; and Psychological Assessment of Adults. Students are expected to participate actively on classroom discussions in semiars and submit a semester paper. Students can only take the final exam if they complete 100% attendence on seminars and submit the semester paper in time.

Course objectives
The purpose of the course is to provide students with an overview and general theoretical background of assessment procedures and tools used by professional psychologists, and allow students to acquire some practical experience with some of the most frequently used tools in psychological assessment of children and adolescents. Students are expected to participate actively on seminars, sharing their own experience with assessment methods they have already encountered (e.g. during an internship, in research, etc.).
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students will be able to:
- give an overview of currently available tools for psychological assessment of children and adolescents;
- adequately choose assessment tools and procedures for basic research and assessment purposes;
- understand results and diagnostic conclusions based on some of the frequently used types of psychological assessment tools;
- formulate diagnostic hypotheses based on the results of psychological assessment.

Standardized test methods: Tools and batteries for assessing development, intelligence, specific abilities, knowledge and skills; neuropsychological assessment tools and batteries; projective tests; analyses of drawings; questionnaires; objective personality tests of personality; rating scales

Teaching methods
Lessons take place once every other week. They consist of lectures, student presentations, discussions, and demonstrations of the use of assessment tools. Lectures are followed by compulsory seminars. Schedules for individual seminar groups are announced before the start of the semester.
Assessment methods
The course is completed by a written exam. Prior to the exam students are required to submit a written paper with the length of min. 3 pgs. Working in pairs, each student will complete a psychological assessment of their fellow student using the appropriate assessment tool. In the semester paper, the students should describe an assessment tool for children/adolescents they have experience with, including theoretical foundations on which the tool is based, administration procedure, scoring, interpretation, subjective impression/reflection, and references.
