Course objectives
The main goal of the course is to introduce students to the environment of clinical psychology – thinking style, overview of diagnoses, work content and healthcare system, which they will encounter while working in clinical psychology. The subject is taught by psychologists in the healthcare sector, who will gradually introduce their fields of expertise, namely psychiatry and neurology. Each teacher has prepared two blocks related to a certain range of diagnoses, the first lecture is more theoretical, the second focused on differential diagnosis and case studies. The teaching is enriched by lectures on a certain specific topic outside the diagnostic circles (e.g. the topic of suicidality or writing status praesens psychicus, etc.)
Learning outcomes
During the semester the student: - get acquainted with the most common diagnoses encountered by psychologists in health care institutions (in the form of theoretical lectures and case studies from practice), - teaches how to think about the differential diagnosis of individual disorders and diseases, - briefly introduce the requirements of pre-testing training and the Czech health care system, - meet the requirements that are placed on psychologists at the beginning of their work in the health care system, - become familiar with the day-to-day work of a psychologist in the healthcare sector.
