Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen students' understanding of ADHD in adulthood. Students will learn in detail about the symptomatology of this disorder and its changes over the course of an individual's life. They will gain insight into the lives of adults with ADHD and the ways it shapes their personal, educational and professional lives as well as their self-image. ADHD will be shown in its entirety as a divergence that undoubtedly brings many difficulties, but also certain positive aspects specific to this disorder.
Learning outcomes
By completing the course, students will gain a detailed insight into ADHD in adulthood and enhance their sensitivity to its symptoms. By closely analyzing the factors that influence the screening and diagnostic process of ADHD, students will also deepen their ability to make clinical-psychological assessments in general. ADHD in adulthood is vastly underdiagnosed in practice; people may be treated for another disorder that (a) they do not have, (b) coexists with ADHD, or (c) may even be ADHD-related. Thus, using the example of ADHD in adulthood, students develop a critical thinking that is transferable to the differential diagnosis of other psychiatric disorders.
